Abstract：
Contemporary drug discovery and development is a costly and time-consuming process.  It has been estimated that it now takes about a decade and costs close to one billion US dollars to develop a new drug from start to finish.  To speed up the drug development process, we have built a library of mostly clinical drugs, called the Johns Hopkins Drug Library (JHDL).  We have screened JHDL in multiple assays including endothelial cell proliferation in search for inhibitors of angiogenesis. We have found several known drugs with previously unappreciated anti-angiogenic activity.  Subsequent mechanistic studies have led to new insights on the functions of the targets of the inhibitors.  Preclinical evaluations revealed that these inhibitors are efficacious in blocking angiogenesis and tumor growth in vivo, paving the way for these inhibitors to enter human clinical trials.

劉鈞教授簡介：

劉鈞教授1983年畢業于南京大學，1986年于美國俄亥俄洲立大學獲碩士學位，1990年于美國麻省理工學院獲博士學位，1992年于美國哈佛大學做博士後研究。之後于美國麻省理工學院任助理教授、副教授。從2001年起供職于美國霍普金斯大學醫學院，曆任神經科學系、藥理和分子科學系及腫瘤學系教授。劉鈞教授具有化學和生物學的雙重學術背景，是目前國際範圍内新興的化學生物學領域中最優秀的年輕教授之一。
