The team relies on the Institute of Natural Products and Traditional Chinese Medicine, Guangdong Technology Research Center for Advanced Chinese Medicine and the Australia-China Centre for Research in Chinese Medicines. And the team is committed to the research and development of natural medicine and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).

Major Research Interests
Pharmacognosy, pharmaceutical analysis and quality control techniques for TCM;
Preclinical study of active components in TCM;
Technology for TCM extraction and separation;

Team members
The team consists of one professor, three associate professors, one lecturer and one technician. Currently we are recruiting postgraduates and postdocs in pharmacognosy, pharmaceutical analysis and pharmaceutical engineering. The team members have oversea education background and international contacts. International collaborations are encouraged.

Facilities
The team is equipped with Waters UPLC-MS/MS and HPLC (USA), Thermo Finnigan TSQ HPLC-MS/MS (USA), 400MHz NMR spectrometer (Germany), TENSOR37 IR spectrum (German), DSQ GC and GC-MS (USA) for pharmaceutical analysis, biopharmaceutical analysis and pharmacokinetics research. The team has the manufacture and assay equipment for the extraction and separation of TCM standard extract, especially on the Molecular Distillation, with the capacity from laboratory scale through pilot plant to commercial scale production.

Achievements
The team has formed a strategic alliance with the School of Pharmacy of the University of Sydney (Australia), the National Institute of Complementary Medicine (NICM) at the University of Sydney (Australia), and the School of Chinese Medicine of the University of Hong Kong.
Over 400 papers have been published in peer-reviewed journals, such as Journal of Food Composition And Analysis, Phytochemical analysis, Chemistry & Biodiversity, Food Chemistry, Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, Phytochemistry, China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica, Chinese Journal of Pharmceutical Analysis, Chinese Herbal Medicines, Chinese Journal of Pharmaceuticals
The team has applied 56 invention patents in China (45 items authorized), 1 American patent, 1 European patent. the team has found and named six new species of medicinal plant.
