Professor Chuanbin Wu,Principal Investigator
Major research interest:
The team’s researches focus on the formulation development, optimization, and delivery of small molecular compounds, peptides, and proteins by a variety of technologies, including film coating for taste masking and controlled release systems, novel sustained release and targeted delivery systems for both water soluble and poorly water soluble compounds. An additional research emphasis is on transdermal and inhalation delivery system, nano-delivery system, as well as delivery system for traditional Chinese medicine.
Team members:
Professor Wu’s PI team currently has one leading Professor, four Associate Professors, two Assistant Professors, one engineer, two research assistants, and more than 70 graduate students in either Ph.D or master programs. In the past few years since the establishment of the team, 11 talented students have been honored Ph.D degree and 49 students have earned their master degrees.
Facilities:
Analytical techniques, such as HPLC, DSC, GC, MS, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, Karl Fisher, and laser light diffraction are routinely used to characterize stability and other important properties of raw materials and the finished dosage forms.
Typical advanced techniques including fluidized bed, spraying drying, hot melt extrusion, extrusion spheronazation, tablet pression, emulsification, and so on, are utilized in formulation development. In addition, the team has developed several key techniques, such as microspheres preparation using UPPS (Ultra-fine Particle Processing System), pellet-tableting, sustained-release injection, solubilization of insoluble drugs et al, and these techniques are dedicated to advance the products with intellectual property rights to the world market.
Besides the fully equipped pharmacy and pharmaceutical engineering laboratories, the team also established Guangdong Research Center for Drug Delivery Systems successfully in 2010.
Achievement:
The team has achieved great success in publications, patents licensing and project applications, including more than 30 licensed patents/patent applications, and 90 articles in leading academic journals (more than 30 SCI articles). Over 30 million RMB research funds supported by Natural Science Foundation of China, National Science and Technology Pillar Program, “Eleventh and Twelfth Five-year Plan”for Science and Technology Research of China (The Key New Drug Creation and Manufacturing) et al. have been issued to the Team in the past few years.
Technical service:
In addition to develop its own research ability, the Team also offers outsourcing service for domestic and oversea pharmaceutical companies. The services range from preparation exploitation and pharmaceutical analysis (CRO) to cooperative development of new dosage form products. Through collaboration with the Team, one enterprise has successfully obtained EU GMP certification and applied for registration of generic preparation to FDA.
