Areas of Study:
Guangdong Engineering Research Center of Chiral Drugs was set up in 2011 sponsored by Guangdong Ministry of Education. The major research areas include chiral synthetic technologies, manufacture processes of chiral drugs, design and synthesis of new chiral drugs, chiral switching of racemic drugs, special analytic technologies of chiral drugs, special pharmacodynamic and pharmacological properties of chiral drugs. The center laboratory consists of 28 faculties including full professors, associate professors, lectures, and full time technicians. Every year about 25 postgraduate students are trained.

Core Facilities: 
The center possesses 3000 M2 well-facilitated research laboratories, analytic instruments and pilot-scale reaction equipments. Good services can be supplied for the industrial projects of chiral drugs from the laboratory scale to pilot scale research. Analytic instruments: LC-IT-TOF high resolution mass spectrometer, LC-MS, GC-MS, LC, GC, MPLC, PE-341 polarimeter. Pilot scale apparatus for drug synthesis: Glass reactors (5L – 50 L), 50 L steel autoclave, rotary evaporators (10 L -20 L), fractional distillation apparatus

Main Goals: 
The center focuses on the developments of new chiral technologies. The design of new chiral catalysts and their applications in asymmetric catalytic reactions have been extensively explored. In addition, the design and synthesis of chiral molecules and their biological evaluation are also carried out. The identifications of the potential chiral drug candidates are the important goals. The developments of green and environmentally friendly pharmaceutical processes of chiral drugs are also main subjects of the center. The special emphasis is placed on the potential industrial applications of the new processes. The close connections and collaborations with pharmaceutical companies are expected to be built up.
