Guangdong Technology Research Center for Advanced Chinese Medicine
Areas of Study:
Guangdong Technology Research Center for Advanced Chinese Medicine was set up in 2011 sponsored by Guangdong Science and Technology Department, Development and Reform Commission of Guangdong Province and the Economic and Information Commission of Guangdong Province. The major research areas include: the modernization of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) research and industrialization development; chemical constituents of natural compounds; reference standard preparation for TCM; standard extracts; theories and techniques for quality control of TCM and related products; screening and modification of the lead compounds from TCM; theories and methods of the sustainable use and GAP (Good Agricultural Practice of Medicinal Plant and Animals) of the TCM; UFA(unsaturated fatty acid) and other lipids application researches in food, drug and bio-energy. The center laboratory faculty consists of 20 members including professors, associate professors, lecturer, and full time technicians. About 15 postgraduate students are trained every year.
Core Facilities:
The center possesses four well-facilitated research laboratories of 1000 m2 area. Main analytical instruments include Rotating Scraped Film Type Molecular Distiller(80 cm), Supercritical CO2 Fluid Extraction Device (2 L), HPLC, MPLC, HSCCC, LC-MS, GC-MS, NMR and HR-MS; Preparation instruments include Extracting and Concentrating Tank (100 kg), Rotating Scraped Film Type Molecular Distiller (250 cm), and Supercritical CO2 Fluid Extraction Device (20 L).
Excellent services can be supplied for research, development, pilot test, and personnel training.
Main Goals:
Based on the research and development of the modernization of TCM (applied technology), the center focuses on development of extraction and separation technologies (especially the molecular distillation which the center has outstanding advantage) and standard extract preparation technologies. With the advantage of Enterprises-Campuses-Research Institutes cooperation, facing the international mainstream medical market, regarding internationalization and standardization of TCM as our historical mission, we will gradually fit the organization, management system, and operation mode of the center with international standards, and apply for National Engineering Research Centers in future.
