On November 20th 2014, the first collaborative research seminar series between the AAPS Student Chapters at Sun Yat-sen University and the University of Texas at Austin was successfully held with approximately 40 participants.

Dr. Chuanbin Wu (Sun Yat-Sen University) and Dr. Robert O. Williams (UT-Austin) introduced the Pharmaceutics Divisions of SYSU and UT-Austin, respectively. Dr. Hugh Smyth (AAPS Student Chapter faculty advisor at UT Austin) and Ms. Ping Du (AAPS Student Chapter chair at UT Austin) presented talks on the regular activities of their Student Chapter. Dr. Xin Pan, the AAPS Student Chapter faculty advisor at SYSU, also talked about the specific program goals, objectives and upcoming events of AAPS-SYSU Student Chapter. Lastly, all of the students (both sides) gave a 1-2 min overview about themselves and their research.

This conference also led to the following immediate benefits as identified by the group:

1. Regularly planned research seminars giving 4 students (2 from each university) to present their research topic to the group (every 4-6 weeks).

2. Graduate student exchanges between Sun Yat-sen University and UT Austin.

3. Invitations to meetings held at either university for speaking, including both graduate students and faculty.

4. Faculty collaborations on research.
